BART Phase 2

VTA’s $4.7 billion BART Silicon Valley Extension Phase 2 (BSV Ph. 2) includes the 6-mile extension of the BART system from the Berryessa BART Station through downtown San Jose to the Santa Clara Caltrain Station. The alignment will include a 5-mile tunnel for the subway through downtown San Jose and the construction of the Alum Rock/28th Street, Downtown San Jose, Diridon, and Santa Clara stations.

Keish Env. staff created and currently maintains the project Environmental Commitment Record (ECR) which identifies and documents the environmental commitments and mitigations found in the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement/ Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIS/ SEIR). VTA included these design, construction, and post-construction commitments to fulfill the NEPA/ CEQA requirements and to address public comments and concerns.

In addition, the Keish team identified the sustainability goals and extracted the requirements applicable to the project from the SEIS and included them in the ECR. Our staff attends ongoing meetings with the VTA Phase 2 management team to discuss the costs associated with the ECR and to further refine the “real world” application of the VTA commitments.
